Uncovering Reiki

Reiki is a non-invasive complementary therapy  which originated in ancient Egypt and was known there as Sekhem.

Sekhem is ancient Egyptian energy healing that is channeled through the hands of the practitioner, working on all levels—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual—accelerating our personal development and elevating our vibrational frequency.

Reiki has been present in Eastern medicine for thousands of years and introduced to the West in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui from Japan.

Reiki supports orthodox medicine or can be used alone but is NOT a replacement for traditional medication or treatments.

Reiki is the energy that flows through all living things.

REI means spiritual wisdom, and KI means energy.

Reiki is Universal Life Force Energy.

Reiki’s gentle energy is easily adapted to most medical conditions and may be used safely by people of all ages, from new-born babies to the frail and the elderly.

It is widely used with pregnant mothers, surgical patients and many other conditions. Reiki is also suitable for animals.

Reiki is NOT:

a miraculous healing that will remove all your problems

a one-time fix

a massage

an alternative to orthodox medicine

a form of psychic healing

a placebo

a religion or cult

Reiki as defined by the Oxford English dictionary is:

“A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being”.

Reiki can help us cope by encouraging relaxation and bringing balance to both mind and emotions.Reiki can create a greater inner harmony and balance; regular Reiki treatments promote a calmer response to life’s challenges.

Reiki helps the body's natural repair and defence mechanism to work more effectively. Reiki can enhance everyday living, and regular sessions may help to promote development of a healthier, more resourceful state of being.

How to prepare for a Reiki session?

Preparing for a Reiki session involves creating a relaxed and open state of mind to maximize its benefits. Here are some tips to help you prepare:

Set your intention. Reflect on what you hope to gain from the session, whether it’s relaxation, emotional healing, or clarity. Setting a clear intention can help focus the energy work.

Stay hydrated before your session, as energy work can shift the flow of energy and toxins in the body. Eat a light meal, avoiding heavy or greasy foods that might make you sluggish - preferable a day before and up to three days after the session.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing to help you relax fully during the session.

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, or other stimulants for a couple of days before the session and up to three days after the session to keep your energy balanced and receptive.

Arriving a few minutes early allows you to settle in and transition from the outside world to the healing space without feeling rushed.

Reiki involves gentle, non-invasive energy work. Approach it with an open mind and let go of any preconceived notions or expectations.

Share any concerns, physical discomforts, or emotional challenges with the facilitator beforehand to tailor the session to your needs.

Silence your phone and other devices to maintain a distraction-free environment. Take off your watch.

Engage in deep breathing or light meditation before the session to calm your mind and body.

Give yourself time to process the experience post-session. Drink water, rest, and reflect on how you feel to integrate the healing benefits. YOur system will need about three days to rebalance.

Approaching your Reiki session with mindfulness and self-care enhances its impact, helping you get the most out of the experience.

Treatment

Reiki is given fully clothed in a quiet environment, traditionally as a hands on (gentle touch) treatment. Please inform your practitioner if you prefer a hands off (no touch) treatment. Respect for personal body privacy is maintained at all times.

There is nothing expected of you to do during the treatment - you simply lie down and relax. During the treatment there is no conversation, you may close your eyes for a better experience.

When giving Reiki, practitioners have been shown to emit electro-magnetic or bio-magnetic energy from their hands. The frequencies of the energy emitted vary from one moment to the next. Those have been identified as being the optimum frequencies for stimulating the healing process in tissues, bones and other body parts so far investigated.

During the session you may experience:

Heat - Warmth - Coolness - Mild tingling - Flow of energy - Emotional release

Sensations in different parts of your body

Calming of mind and balance of emotions

Feeling light or gently out of the body

Have dream-like experiences

Online Reiki?

Reiki can work over distance due to the concept that energy is not limited by physical boundaries. Practitioners of distance Reiki rely on the following principles to facilitate healing:

Universal Life Force Energy: Reiki operates on the belief that energy is interconnected and universal. A practitioner channels this energy to the recipient, regardless of location.

Intent and Focus: By focusing their intention, practitioners connect to the recipient’s energy field. This intention acts as a bridge to direct Reiki energy to where it is needed.

Symbol Activation: Reiki practitioners use specific symbols, such as the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (the distance symbol), to transcend time and space. This allows the energy to flow across distances to the intended recipient.

Quantum Mechanics Alignment: The principles of quantum entanglement suggest that two points of energy can influence one another regardless of distance, aligning with how Reiki energy is transmitted.

Energy Fields Connection: Reiki practitioners believe that every individual has an energy field. During a session, the practitioner connects to the recipient's energy field, enabling the healing energy to reach and benefit them.

Distance Reiki is typically experienced as relaxation, warmth, or emotional shifts, similar to in-person sessions, demonstrating its ability to impact the recipient even when they are far away.
