When saying yes has become automatic
You may be the person who notices what everyone needs, keeps the peace and steps in before anyone has to ask. On the outside, you can seem capable, kind and easy to rely on. Privately, you may feel tired, resentful, unseen or unsure what you actually want.
People-pleasing is not simply being generous. It can become a pattern where another person’s disappointment, frustration or uncertainty feels more urgent than your own limits. You agree when you are already stretched, soften what you mean, avoid a difficult conversation or keep trying to earn a sense of safety through being useful.
Therapy for people-pleasing gives you a private place to understand why this pattern has become so compelling. Sonia’s Therapy & Coaching approach brings emotional understanding together with practical, sustainable action, so you can make room for yourself without trying to become someone colder or less caring.
You might recognise this
More than a confidence problem
There are often good reasons a person learned to accommodate quickly. You may have grown up around conflict, unpredictability or expectations that made your own needs feel inconvenient. You may have learnt that being helpful kept connection, approval or safety close. Sometimes the pattern is strengthened later through a demanding relationship, caring role or workplace where you are rewarded for always being available.
Understanding this does not mean staying in the past or excusing relationships that are asking too much of you. It gives you a clearer starting point. Instead of telling yourself to be more assertive and then judging yourself when it feels impossible, you can pay attention to the feelings, beliefs and physical alarm that arrive when you consider doing something differently.
Sonia helps you bring the real situation into the room: the family request you dread, the work you keep taking on, the partner you cannot seem to disappoint or the friendship where you no longer know what is reasonable. Together, you can separate care from over-responsibility, and concern from the habit of managing another person’s emotional world.
The work also makes room for the uncertainty that can come with change. Some people worry that a boundary will damage a relationship. Others discover that people are used to receiving a version of them that never shows strain, need or disagreement. You can look honestly at what a relationship can hold, what is yours to communicate and what another person needs to take responsibility for themselves.
There is no need to force a dramatic confrontation. A useful change might begin with taking time before you answer, naming a preference without apologising for it, or allowing a person to have a feeling without immediately trying to remove it. These moments can sound small, but they are often where a more equal relationship becomes possible.
If anxiety is taking up too much space, online anxiety therapy may be a useful related route. If the pattern is most visible between you and a partner, you can also explore online relationship counselling or couples therapy and relationship counselling.
From insight to a different response
Slow down the moment before you agree. Identify what you fear might happen if you pause, ask for time or say no.
Explore the old expectations and protective habits that make another person’s disappointment feel difficult to bear.
Work with language and choices that fit the relationship, including a direct request, a limit or a conversation you have been postponing.
Bring back the discomfort and the useful discoveries, so a new response becomes more available beyond the session.
Working with Sonia

Therapy & Coaching is not a programme for performing better boundaries. The work is shaped around your circumstances, the relationships that matter and the change you want to make. Some sessions may focus on emotional processing and the history of the pattern. Others may focus on a decision, a conversation or how to stay with the discomfort of a new choice.
This can be particularly useful if you are carrying a lot at work, at home or in a caring role. Being dependable is not the problem. The question is whether dependability has come to mean that your own needs are always deferred. The work helps you find a steadier position, where you can be responsive without becoming responsible for everything.
Over time, the aim is not perfection. It is more choice: enough space to notice what you feel, decide what you can offer and speak with greater honesty when a limit or need matters.
Sonia brings over 15 years of therapeutic, coaching and leadership experience. Her training includes personal counselling, relationship counselling and life coaching. You can read Sonia’s therapeutic qualifications and clients’ experiences before deciding whether her approach feels suitable.
Sessions are online only, from Sonia’s Bicester-based practice, with clients worldwide. You can join from a quiet, private space without travelling to an appointment. If a relationship includes coercion, intimidation or fear for your safety, individual specialist support may be more appropriate than trying to resolve the issue through joint conversations.
You do not need to prove that your difficulties are serious enough before asking for help. If you are tired of knowing what you should do but finding it hard to do it, that is enough to bring to a first conversation.

Before you begin
It can be a useful focus for Therapy & Coaching. The work can help you understand what makes a request, disagreement or someone else’s disappointment feel so difficult, then practise more workable responses in the relationships and situations that matter to you.
No. The point is not to make you detached, hard or indifferent to other people. It is to help you include your own needs, limits and judgement alongside care for the people around you.
You do not need to arrive with the answer. A session can make room for the context, the relationship and what you are worried will happen. Together, you can work out what you genuinely have capacity for and how you might communicate it.
Yes. Anxiety often has a place in the pattern, especially when you anticipate conflict, rejection or getting something wrong. You can explore both the anxious feeling and the choices that become difficult when it takes over.
